The Constructive Agility®

Leadership System

Why wait forever to see results?

Finally, a deterministic approach that is guaranteed to increase your organization’s agility and effectiveness

The next webinar will be announced soon. See upcoming webinars here!

Organizations that adopt Agile frameworks often see benefits in their ability to manage the load of work, but they often fail to achieve what the frameworks claim to be for – agility.

Instead, it is common that agility actually deceases. The reasons for this are myriad, and they include the increased complexity of the workflow, as well as the psychological tendency of people to expect that the framework has all of the answers, and so people stop feeling a sense of ownership for how the work is done.

We have a better approach, and you don’t have to throw out your frameworks to use it. Our research revealed that agility results from three things, and all must be addressed: (1) knowledge of agility-promoting work patterns such as Lean and Flow, (2) behavior, in terms of how people react when things do not go as expected, and (3) the organization’s cultural expectations and norms with regard to the above.

A complete system:

— People learn what they need at their own pace. (Curriculum here)

— Built-in assessment tools tell you in a dashboard what level of agility you actually are attaining.

We therefore created a system to help the people in organizations to learn, over time, all of these things, and to reinforce them.

It is a system for increasing people’s knowledge of agility-promoting work patterns, and also for changing behavior toward the agility-promoting behaviors of Agile 2, which are based on behavioral psychology, leadership theory, cognitive science, and operations research. We call the learning journey Constructive Agility.

Q&A

Answers to some common questions can be found here.

Why this is important

Organizations need actual agility – the ability to respond quickly and effectively to the unexpected. Now there is a system to help your people to learn how.

Leadership is key

A cornerstone of agility is the behavior of the people in leadership roles, at all levels of the organization. Other cornerstones are knowledge of Lean and Flow patterns, and structural incentives.

Agile in pockets does not give you agility overall

If only your product development teams use “Agile” methods, your organization will not be agile. Agility is an organization-wide emergent property.

Dependency management does not scale

One of the practical hindrances of agility is how dependencies between teams are managed. It is essential to know and apply patterns for managing dependencies in “real time”.

About Agile 2

Agile 2 is about real agility – not someone’s invented workflow framework.

Agile Leadership

Six of the principles of Beyond Budgeting pertain to leadership. Nine of Agile 2’s principles pertain to leadership. Leadership is central to agility.

Finance, business, people, product

Organizational agility and effectiveness requires that everyone operate in a nimble manner.

How It Operates

Your organization subscribes. Agile 2 Academy will provide content and updates to your organization’s preferred online collaboration and learning platforms. (Some of the platforms that we already link to include Confluence, Teams, and Absorb – but we will link to yours at no charge.)

The curriculum is described here: https://www.agile2academy.com/agile-2-foundations

The system is developmental: there are role-play workshops and there are also topic-specific seminars designed for senior leaders.

We provide your leadership with training on how to use the Agility Progress Dashboard, and we provide templates for messages to send, informing people about the system, how they can access it, and what is expected of them.

Who said that Agile transformation has to be hard?!

Why It Works

It is widely known that deep organizational transformation is not something that you can plan and “roll out” as a process change. But Constructive Agility is not a rollout: it is a learning journey. People use the system to create their own process changes, applying what they learn from the system.

Transition

You can just license the system* and run with it on your own. But our clients have found it helpful to have transition support. We work with you to find the approach that makes the most sense for your situation.

* Updates and improvements are included with the license.

How People Use It

Participants use it to,

  • Take course lessons (which include homework and exams).

  • Participate in role-playing simulations and discussions.

  • Take survey-based assessments.

  • Examine agility progress via the dashboard.

  • Check their knowledge and behavior using a chat assistant.*

* Coming in spring 2024.

People in leadership roles also attend an initial leadership seminar, to help them to align around shared mental models for agility-promoting leadership styles.

Senior leaders use the dashboard to understand where there has been progress, in terms of actual agility – not in terms of some framework’s “Agile practices”.
