Q & A About the Constructive AgilityⓇ Leadership System

What are the costs and logistics of using the CAS?

  • The cost for the system is an organization-scope (“enterprise”) license for your organization.

  • Licensing can begin monthly, and transition to a lower cost annual license.

  • You can license only a portion of the content, depending on your needs. (Ref the course description page, the prerequisites section)

  • For portions that require facilitation (online discussion moderation and role-play workshops), you can choose: have us deliver those, or use a “train the trainer” approach to create your own facilitators for the course content.

What should I expect over time?

  • Steady an inexorable improvement in effectiveness and agility, clearly indicated through metrics shown in the dashboard.

Who should take this training?

  • We recommend that you begin with your most senior decision makers and strategies. For those who are absolutely too busy, we have some alternative topic-specific executive seminars that introduce key ideas in a dialogic manner.

  • Ideally, training cohorts should mix levels. But make sure to include the most senior levels, because this training is about leadership and how to help people to operate at their best.

How is this different from other Agile training?

  • CAS is not just “training” – it is a learning and developmental system that includes reporting on actual agility and effectiveness improvement.

  • Rather than based on Agile frameworks that do not have theoretical foundation, CAS is based on established research in leadership theory, behavioral psychology, cognitive science, and operations research.

How does it integrate with our existing Agile learning initiatives?

  • Most Agile training focuses on practices. The Agile 2 Foundations content is best viewed as foundational, and therefore a prerequisite for learning Agile practices. That puts one in a more discerning position with respect to which Agile practices might be useful, and how to apply them intelligently instead of in a pro forma manner.

Why would the CAS be effective?

  • Because – unlike “Agile” training – the Agile 2 Foundations content is designed to teach and develop behaviors that have been shown to be effective through established research.

How does it integrate with existing processes and practices that are being used in our organization?

  • No immediate process changes are required. Over time, people explore ways to apply what they have learned into their current methods, drastically improving those methods and their effectiveness.

What is our involvement? – do you deliver it, or do we?

  • By default, we (Agile 2 Academy) serve as moderators for the online discussions and facilitators for the live role-play workshops. (Our support is a separate service agreement.) However, you can use your own trainers if you prefer, to save money. (See next item)

  • Trainers for this course need to be highly experienced leaders who have had their own experiences that they can relate to the learning content. We recommend that trainers have at least ten years of experience that includes at least two years leading groups of at least ten people, as well as responsibility for delivery in a product development context.

  • Agile 2 Academy has a trainer certification program (ask for the Instructor Certification Guide). We recommend getting your own people certified so that you can transition to operating on your own.

How are the metrics collected?

  • The platform includes a dashboard and survey system. The dashboard shows trends over time. There are two surveys: a behavioral one and an outcome-oriented one; these provide “leading” and “trailing” indicators, respectively. The system can be configured so that participants must complete surveys on a recurring basis: trends will then develop in the dashboards.

Are any Agile frameworks covered?

  • No. Agile frameworks are not used.

Can we license a subset of the content?

  • Yes, as long as the subset does not span dependencies, as shown in the prerequisites chart on the course description page.

If one uses an Agile framework, is that a problem?

  • No. Using an Agile framework does not conflict with the learning system in any way. In fact, one can expect that use of one’s Agile framework will improve as a result of people’s behavior, knowledge, and leadership improving. They might decide over time that they do not need the Agile framework.
